Despite Covid-19 Pandemic, CM Yogi Adityanath Led Uttar Pradesh Govt Completes Kanpur Metro Within Two Years – Swarajya

In 2017, Uttar Pradesh had only 15 km of metro rail operational in Ghaziabad and Noida. In less than five years, the metro lines were expanded to 82 km in four cities with Lucknow and Greater Noida added on the state’s Metro map.
In a remarkable achievement, CM Yogi Adityanath led the Uttar Pradesh government brought the Kanpur metro project to trial run phase from the commencement of project works within two years.
Despite two rounds of Covid-19 induced restrictions in March-September of 2020 and April-June of 2021, this work has been completed in less than two years.
On Wednesday (10 November), CM Yogi Adityanath flagged off the trial run of the Kanpur Metro and said the people of the city would soon have access to the best transport facility.
In the next 6-weeks, after security testing and certification, nine km of the corridor from IIT Gate to Moti Jheel with nine stations will be made operational in December.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had laid the foundation work of the nine-kilometre long ‘Priority Corridor’ on 15 November 2019. The swift implementation of the project so far has earned the contractors and civil engineers immense applause from the authorities.

Commending the state government for this significant feat, the Secretary to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Durga Shanker Mishra said that work on another 131 km of Metro/ Regional Rapid Transport (RRT) is going on actively in another seven cities including Agra and Meerut.
