The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is headed to doorsteps August 27, and there are plenty of reasons to … [+]
If you’re looking to upgrade your smartphone and love the look and function of Samsung’s latest foldables, the new Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G has just been released, so now’s the perfect time to get your hands on what has become an instantly popular smartphone. There are awesome deals to cash in on if you decide to buy, whether you get it from Samsung, Best Buy, AT&T or another popular service carrier.
While you can purchase the phone outright (MSRP: $999.99 for the 128GB model), most of the best deals are offered to people who trade an existing phone and then finance the new phone for up to 36 months.
Samsung is offering up to $600 off on the purchase of the phone with an eligible trade-in, bringing the price down to $399.99 for the 128GB model. In conjunction with this deal, the phone can be financed for $11.11/month for 36 months, and a free silicone cover (up to a $39.99 value) is included.
Purchase the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G directly from Samsung and you’ll also receive three months of Spotify Premium, four free months of YouTube Premium and six free months of SiriusXM streaming.
Hop on over to Best Buy to pre-order the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G and get $400 in instant savings with activation (even for an unlocked phone), and get up to 24 months financing. An additional $200 in Samsung Credit is also being offered to qualifying new and existing customers.
Alternatively, when pre-ordering and activating the phone from Best Buy—with AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon as your chosen service provider—a savings of up to $400 is being offered with qualified activation. This goes along with an additional $1,000 credit for an eligible trade-in, and up to a $200 Samsung Credit that can be used toward accessories or a memory upgrade for the phone.
When you purchase the phone through Best Buy and then activate it with a particular service provider, alternate deals are also available based on your current service contract or whether the phone will be activated to a new account.
AT&T is offering up to $1,000 in bill credits, plus up to $350 more in additional bill credits when you buy on a qualifying installment plan with an eligible AT&T unlimited plan (minimum $75/mo. before discounts) and trade in an eligible smartphone. Additional restrictions may apply.
Without a trade-in, the phone can be financed for $27.78/month with 0% APR for 36 month. If you sign up for the AT&T Next Up offer for an early trade-in after paying off 50 percent of the phone, you can take $5/month off the monthly bill.
AARP members can also save up to $10/month per phone line on an AT&T Unlimited Elite plan and pay no activation or upgrade fees with select upgrades.
T-Mobile is offering a “Get One Free” deal when you buy the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G and take advantage of the company’s 24-month financing option, activate a line on an eligible service plan, and trade-in an eligible device.
US Cellular is offering up to $1200 off any 5G smartphone, including the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, which makes the phone free when you sign up for an Unlimited Even Better service plan, with credit approval, and commit to a 30-month service plan. An additional trade-in credit for an eligible phone may also be available.
Samsung improved the durability of the new phone model, tossed in a better processor, and redesigned the Cover Screen. Last year’s Galaxy Z Flip model showcased what a foldable phone for the masses would look like. And despite the Z Fold2 gaining more headlines, the Flip 5G was a great option if you didn’t want to carry a tablet in your pocket.

Fast forward to today, and the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is here with plenty of intriguing upgrades and seven casing colors to choose from, including cream, black, green, lavender, gray, white, and pink. Choose between 128GB and 256GB of internal storage.
With the various upgrade and trade-in deals being offered, the 256GB model (MSRP: $1,049.99) becomes extremely affordable. Of course, the new Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is a 5G-compatible smartphone, so right out of the box, you can expect the fastest cellular data connection speeds your service provider allows.

Under the hood, there really aren’t too many differences between the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. Those wondering about how Samsung arrived at the Z Flip3 will simply have to look at the history of this clamshell. Technically, this is the third clamshell folding phone to be released, and Samsung wanted to provide some uniformity in its new Galaxy Z lineup.
Different Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Color options
While the main screen of the Z Flip3 5G is the same size as its predecessor; coming in at 6.7-inches, there are a few notable improvements. First is the upgraded display technology being used. It’s also a Dynamic AMOLED display, which Samsung claims has been improved to the point where it’s 80% more durable than last year’s phone.
Even with the improved display, the phone’s battery boasts up to 25 hours of talk time, or up to 9 days and 4 hours of standby time.
Keeping with durability for a moment, the Z Flip3 5G marks the second folding phone to sport an official IP rating. Thanks to the IPX8 water resistance, the Z Flip3 5G can be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for about 30 minutes. We don’t recommend putting those claims to the test, but at least the phone will survive being stuck in a rain storm.

Additionally, the Z Flip3 5G offers an upgraded refresh rate with its 120Hz display, up from the 60Hz refresh rate from the Z Flip 5G. This matches up with what we have on the Galaxy Z Fold3, along with many other flagship Android phones that have been released thus far in 2021.
When you have the Z Flip3 5G in clamshell mode, the Cover Screen looks a bit different. Samsung has integrated both the Cover Screen and dual-camera system into the slab of glass that stretches the width of the phone. The Z Flip3 5G now features a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED cover display, making it better to use when taking selfies or managing your incoming notifications.
As for those aforementioned cameras, you’ll notice that there’s really not much of a difference from the Z Flip 5G. There’s a dual-camera system with a 12MP wide-angle main camera, along with a 12MP ultra-wide sensor placed in a vertical orientation.
If you look at the Android flagship phone landscape, just about every option is powered by the latest Snadpragon 888 chipset. This includes the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, and Samsung is bringing the same processor to the Z Flip3 5G. With this update, there’s about a 25% difference in single-core performance along with 12% increase in multi-core performance.
Samsung is keeping the same 8GB of RAM from the Z Flip 5G, but instead is offering either 128GB or 256GB of storage. Adding an additional storage option definitely helped push the price a bit lower compared to last year’s clamshell Galaxy phone.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 with Galaxy Buds 2 and Galaxy Watch 4
The most exciting aspect of the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G might not just be the new and improved durability or the larger cover screen. The price tag is also much more attractive. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G was released with a launch price of around $1,449. Since then, Samsung has permanently discounted its clamshell phone by 20%, bringing the price down to $1,199.
The new Galaxy Z Flip3 5G and its IPX8 water resistance rating along with its 120Hz refresh rate, is coming in at just $999. Offering a $450 price discount between generations shows Samsung heard the previous complaints loud and clear.
Optional Samsung accessories for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G include the Wireless Charger Pad Trio ($89.99), the Wireless Charger Stand 15W ($79.99), the Samsung Wireless Charger Duo ($59.99) and a selection of cases.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 make an excellent addition to the Galaxy Z Flip 3, allowing for hands-free phone communication and the ability to stream or listen to audio (music, podcasts, etc.) without any headphone cables.
Until now, we have not seen a foldable smartphone released under the $1,000 mark. Despite there not being too much competition in the space just yet, perhaps this new (lower) price and compact design will drive folding phones into the mainstream. And maybe that will drive other phone makers to come in with other options in an effort to drop the price even lower.
Between myriad color options and the low starting price, before even considering discounts and trade-ins, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is already showing signs of being a smash hit.
